How the generator keeps the game honest
Football squares only works when nobody can predict or nudge the number draw. This tool draws
both axis numbers with crypto.getRandomValues, the browser's
cryptographically secure random generator — the same primitive used for session keys — and
every draw is an independent, uniformly random arrangement of 0 through 9. There is no shuffle
you can influence and no seed you can replay.
The Lock board button exists for the moment before the reveal. Once the board is locked, every square becomes read-only, so nobody can quietly swap their pick after the numbers appear. Reveal first and lock second? The lock still works — but your group will trust a locked board more, so lock before you reveal.
Three grid sizes, one tool
- 100 squares (10×10) — the classic. Best for 10 to 100 players, one digit per row and column.
- 50 squares (10×5) — single digits down the side, paired numbers (0-1, 2-3, and so on) across the top. Half the squares to sell for mid-sized groups.
- 25 squares (5×5) — every square covers a pair of digits on both axes. Ideal for a family party or a small crew at work.
Filling a board quickly
Tap any open square to type a name; tap a taken square to rename or clear it. For a full board, paste your list into the batch panel — one name per line — and the tool shuffles the names and deals them to open squares in one click. Set “squares per person” above one and each name gets that many squares, spaced apart when the board allows it. If your list is longer than the open squares, the tool stops and tells you instead of half-filling the board.
During the game
Enter each team's points at the end of every period in the score panel. The square that matches the last digit of both scores lights up — for Q1 through the final — so you can settle every period without doing math at the party. On the 50 and 25 square boards the same rule applies through the paired-number buckets.
Everything runs on your device. The board is saved in your browser's local storage, and Copy share link packs the whole board — names, numbers, lock state — into a URL you can paste into your group chat. Print on one Letter page in landscape, or download the board as a PNG.
